Hello there! This is my first web page, so I really don't know what I'm doing yet! I'm also just starting to learn this HTML thing, so I'm sure my first page won't look all that professional yet (not to mention my "writing skills" suck!). I guess the idea of "personal" web page is to make one's self appear "interesting"...so here goes!!! By the way, my E-mail & Yahoo messenger addy is dbwviking@yahoo.com, and my favorite search engine is Google. Find me on MySpace and be my friend!
I use to be into anything automotive! I've built street rods, muscle cars, and raced at a 1/4 mile drag strip! My first car was a 38 Buick with a 390 Ford truck & drive train. My favorites are GM! Here are some of my first cars (move mouse over pic for caption). I've had several 66 GTO's ("GOATS"), Buick Grand Sports, and 56 Chevys, etc., etc.,...and here is a pic of my 58 Chevy taken in 1984. This was powered with a "3-Duce" 409 engine and a turbo-350 with a B&M shift-kit! I did have some Mopars, which included a 69 Super-Bee and a 440 Plymouth I raced at the strip!
Lately I havn't been able to afford any project cars, so I've been collecting 1/18 scale die-cast models. There are a bunch of online companies that sell them...a good one is Diecast Musclecars
I'm into different kinds of music...including Metal, Rock, Celtic, Country, etc.. Some of the metal artists I like include: Black Sabbath (of course), Metallica, Queensrÿche, Iron Maiden, Alice In Chains, etc.. I've always been into Fleetwood Mac ("Ohhh!!!"...Stevie Nicks!!!). A new band I really like is Evanescence. Lately i've aquired an interest in country...Shania Twain, Toby Keith, Trisha Yearwood, Trace Adkins ("Honkytonk-Badonkadonk!"), etc., are a few of my favorites. My best site isVH1 Classic.
I've got a collection of old concert stubs from some of the concerts I went to "back-in-the-day." In my collection are 2 unused tickets to the Pink Floyd "Momentary Lapse of Reason" tour in 87 (what happened, was I bought tickets for a friend and myself. My friend was suppose to provide the ride, because my car was broke down, and this concert was taking place 150 miles away...he never showed, so I didn't get to see the concert, but ended up with 2 unused tickets).
I do family history research, and have actually did my own desk top publishing of a family history book and donated it to several libraries! I started out about 10 years ago when a cousin published a book that included a lot on my dads side of the family. I really got into, and did the research on my own lines, and created the "Weller Family History". For anyone interested in doing their own family history research, Ancestry.com is one of the best sites.
There's kind of an interesting story connected with this. My 4th great grandmother--Lucinda (Treat) Weller--had a "Royal" European bloodline, and the main lines came down from a certain "King Edward the 1st" of England. I thought this was really "Cool" and bragged how I was kin to this king! However, when the movie "Braveheart" came out, I quite bragging because I found out this was the very same king who tortured and murdered Braveheart (William Wallace)!!!
I've always wanted to build a Triumph Chopper! All I have ever had, so far, are, so called, "rice rockets" (Jap bikes), like Hondas, Yamahas, etc.. When I was out in Colorado, I did build a Honda 750 chopper. Some popular Chopper sites (thanks to the Discovery Channel) are West Coast Choppers and Orange County Choppers (they also carry a line of really cool T-shirts!).
I have always liked cats (and dogs)...but during the 9 years I lived in Colorado with my ex Julie, I really got into felines! Shortly after we moved into our house out there, we started putting out food for the neighborhood strays & ferrals. More & more started showing up at our back door! We ended up helping Animal Welfare & a local cat shelter trap them (with "have-a-heart" traps, of course), so they could be spayed & neutered. Many of our kitties became tame and we took them in. They would keep us in "stitches with their antics! For instance, we had a black & white cat we called Siegfried, who we rented "Audubon" (bird) videos just to watch him bat at the birds on the screen! (when they flew off, he would look around in back to see where they went!). We had a cat toy called "laser mouse," which produced a red "dot" on the wall. These guys would go out of their minds trying to catch it!
In 02 we had to leave our place out west, and had to find homes for them all! They were "family" of course, and it broke our hearts, to have to do this!!! I really miss those guys, and I hope I can find an apartment soon where I can have another cat! Anyway, here they are! This is an interesting kitty pic I found on the net!
Here's an unusual hobby...I like to grow "meat-eating" (Carnivorous) plants! When I was a kid, my dad had a greenhouse, so learned a little about plants. I thought "Venus-Fly-Traps" were really "neat" so I grew my own. There are others ones, such as the "trumpet," & "pitcher" plants. I don't have any right now, but might grow some again sometime. I also enjoy gardening, and grew 7-foot tomato plants every year, when I was living in Colorado!
I'm a practicing (sometimes) "Pagan!" Just about everyone has heard of "Wicca." I use to be Wiccan, but now I'm an "Asatruar" (follower of "Asatru."). Asatru is the indigenous religion of a large part of Northern Europe. It's best known as the religion of the Vikings. I'm more into the "cultural" aspect of Asatru then the religious. It was the belief & culture of my ancestors, and sort of goes "hand-in-hand" with the research of my family lines, etc.. I've also got "Irish-blood," so, needless to say, I'm into everything "Celtic!"
I really like ancient European swords! When I was in Colorado, I had both "Viking" & "Celtic" swords! Unfortunately, I lost them both at a pawnshop ("rrrrr!!!"). There are quite a few online companies who sell finely crafted swords, and I may get another Viking sword someday.
I also use to collect muzzleloading/blackpowder guns. My favorites were the "Hawkens" & "Pennsylvania Flintlock". A company that sells really cool (and very expensive) handmade PA rifles is Pennsylvania Longrifles.
